1) MIDA-Deloitte: Direct Investment Abroad (DIA) Study – Focus Group Discussion with Industry Players on 18 September 2024


The Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA) is undertaking a study to enhance the competitiveness of Malaysia’s manufacturing industry through Direct Investment Abroad (DIA).

MIDA has appointed Deloitte as the consultant to conduct this study. The main scope of this study involves conducting a detailed assessment on Malaysia’s DIA landscape and subsequently to devise suitable DIA policies and strategies for the relevant DIA focused sectors.

Deloitte organised a Focus Group Discussion on 18 September 2024 at MIDA’s head office. This group discussion aimed to gather more insights, perspective, challenges, opportunities related to DIA and recommendations on policy measures needed to advance the Malaysian manufacturing sectors through DIA. Representatives from chambers of commerce, industry associations, business associations and private sector players participated in the discussion. MASSA was represented at this discussion by Mr Samuel Loh, Programme Executive.


2) MIDA-Deloitte: Direct Investment Abroad (DIA) Study – Strategic Visioning Workshop
24 September 2024


Following the MIDA-Deloitte Focus Group Discussion on 18 September 2024, a Strategic Visioning Workshop with Government Ministries and agencies including, Ministry of Finance, Bank Negara Malaysia, MATRADE, MIDA, and EXIM Bank was held at MIDA’s head office on 24 September 2024.

This workshop was organised with the aim to review Deloitte’s findings thus far in their study and for stakeholders to provide further inputs, feedback and validation of the assessment and preliminary policy recommendations. MASSA was represented at this discussion by Ms Ng Su Fun, Executive Secretary and Mr Samuel Loh, Programme Executive.

 


3) Meeting with Malaysia Chambers Jakarta (MCJ) 2 October 2024


Through the introduction of Mr Sivavenayakam Velayutham, MASSA Secretariat met with the Mr Mani Wannan Letchumanan, Vice President of the Malaysia Chambers Jakarta (MCJ), an entity under the patronage of the Ambassador of Malaysia to Indonesia.

The meeting, held on 2 October over lunch discussed how MASSA and MCJ could collaborate to highlight the business insights & opportunities for Malaysians in Indonesia.

4) Working Visit from Indonesia on 14 October 2024


Dr Asman Abnur, Chairman, PT Vitka Inti Internasional, VITKA Holdings and Mr Alvidyan Virgarazman, CEO, PT Vitka Inti Internasional, VITKA Holdings, through the good office of Mr Mani Wannan, Vice President, Malaysia Chambers Jakarta (MCJ) and Mr Sivavenayakam Velayutham, CEO & Founder of Kolaxus & Director – Partnership & Key Project, Finexus Group made a Working Visit to Malaysia.

This leg of their Working Visit on 14 October 2024 was facilitated by MASSA, wherein the Indonesian delegates had:

  1. 1. A visit to Ren Wellness Retreat Kuala Lumpur, a joint collaboration between MASSA member companies, Beijing Healthcare Management Sdn Bhd and IJM Land Berhad,
  2. 2. A briefing on MASSA & the Malaysian South-South Corporation Berhad (MASSCORP) at MASSA’s Office,
  3. 3. A dialogue with MASSA President, Tan Sri Azman Hashim, and
  4. 4. Lunch hosted by Tan Sri Azman Hashim.
 

1. Visit to Ren Wellness Kuala Lumpur

The delegation was hosted by MASSA Member, Beijing Healthcare Management Sdn Bhd. Mr Lau Chee Wen, Managing Director, received the delegation at the premises of Ren Wellness Retreat Kuala Lumpur. This is a joint collaborative project between IJM Land Berhad and Beijing Healthcare Management Sdn Bhd focusing on holistic wellness concepts, particularly on Traditional & Complementary Medicine (T&CM) services.

2. Briefing at MASSA’s Office

Ms Ng Su Fun, Executive Secretary, MASSA & General Manager, MASSCORP joined by Dato’ Lawrence Lim Swee Lin, Hon. Secretary, MASSA delivered an introductory briefing to the Indonesian delegates on MASSA and MASSCORP at its office in Bangunan AmBank Group.

3. Dialogue with Tan Sri Azman Hashim, President of MASSA

The delegation was then invited by Tan Sri Azman Hashim, President of MASSA for a dialogue in his office. Tan Sri Azman Hashim presented the delegation with a copy of MASSA-MASSCORP’s 27th Anniversary Book.

4. Luncheon Meeting hosted by Tan Sri Azman Hashim

The delegation extended an invitation to Tan Sri Azman Hashim & MASSA to consider investments in Indonesia, particularly in Batam.

Batam is well-positioned and strategically located as a neighbouring city to Singapore & Johor, and is one of the top 3 ports in Indonesia.


5) MASSA-KolaXus-MAJECA iDeas Xchange Start-up Meet-up & Sharing Session – 2024/2025 Series | Session #1 – Introducing Tomorrow’s Innovators on 5 December 2024 at Banquet Hall, Bangunan AmBank Group, Jalan Raja Chulan


Malaysia South-South Association (MASSA) and Malaysia-Japan Economic Association (MAJECA) with KolaXus, led by its Founder & CEO, Mr Sivavenayakam Velayutham, Executive Committee Member of MAJECA, launched its inaugural Start-up Meet-up & Sharing Session Series, iDeas Xchange, supported by Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) on 5 December 2024 at Banquet Hall, Bangunan AmBank Group with the theme of “Introducing Tomorrow’s Innovators”.  

MASSA was represented by Dato’ Lawrence Lim Swee Lin, Hon. Secretary of the Malaysia South-South Association (MASSA) and the MASSA Secretariat. Also present at the event was Tan Sri Rastam Mohd Isa, Senior Executive Committee Member of MAJECA and Mr Gary Tang, Hon. Secretary of MAJECA.

Cognisant of the shared, and rising sentiment for corporate-startup convergence & partnership, for innovation, growth, collaboration, and exchange, the iDeas Xchange Series was launched with the aim to facilitate and encourage networking, interactions, tie-ups and catalytic partnerships between corporate Malaysia and the Malaysian startup ecosystem.

Tan Sri Rastam Mohd Isa, Senior Executive Committee Member of the Malaysia-Japan Economic Association (MAJECA) delivered the Welcome Remarks.

Mr Sivavenayakam Velayutham, Founder & CEO, KolaXus and Executive Committee Member of Malaysia-Japan Economic Association (MAJECA) delivered the Kick-Off Remarks.

With the inaugural session theme of “Introducing Tomorrow’s Innovators” moderated by Mr Sivavenayakam Velayutham, Founder & CEO, KolaXus and Executive Committee Member of Malaysia-Japan Economic Association (MAJECA), four growth-stage tech startups shared and showcased their innovative solutions and business models, and potential collaboration opportunities.

Dato’ Lawrence Lim Swee Lin, Hon. Secretary of MASSA delivered the Closing Remarks.

 

In his presentation, Dato’ Lawrence Lim announced that MASSA’s sister organisation, the Malaysian South-South Corporation Berhad (MASSCORP) would set aside funds (of up to RM 10 million) to catalyse partnerships with homegrown Malaysian startups together with its stakeholders to grow startups, assist their expansion and scaleup into the markets of the developing South-South countries.
